Watching a TV series re-run episode.
  • Me: Wow, I can tell when that show was popular after the first two notes in the opening music.
  • Robert: Yeah, those were the good old days. There’s never been a better theme song decade than the 70s. Don’t you wish we all had our own personal theme that plays whenever we’re walking around?
  • Me: I have one in my head all the time. Don’t you?
  • Robert: Uhmmm… no. You’re weird, remember?
  • Me: Oh yeah. I forget sometimes, but you are always kind enough to remind me.
  • Robert: So, what does your theme music sound like?
  • Me: Well, it varies — but it’s usually some quodlibet of whatever score I’m conducting and whatever I’m composing at the time.
  • Robert: Oh geez. So, right now your theme song is a melding of Beethoven with 12-tone, serialist music?
  • Me: Yep. Pretty much.
  • Robert: I’m glad you’re the only one who can hear it.
