This is a song cycle for mezzo-soprano or soprano with piano. Texts are poems by Madeleine L’Engle and offer Mary’s (the mother of Christ) perspective of His crucifixion (Friday), burial (Saturday), and resurrection (Sunday). I composed this when I was pregnant with my second daughter, so the maternal vibe was strong. I still marvel at the strength of so many women in the Bible, but Mary is always the most intriguing to me.

I. Friday

II. Saturday

III. Sunday

Kira Lace Hawkins, mezzo-soprano

Pamela Haynes, piano

Haley Neilson, recording engineer (Summer 2017)
