Robert and I often confer on repertoire selection for the MSO. There is much to consider, but of course audience enjoyment weighs heavily.
- Me: We need to draw in more young people, but they don’t always have the attention span for a full symphony by Mozart or Beethoven.
- Robert: It’s a cold hard fact — the generation of big classical music fans is dying out. The good news is that the next generation after them will have medicinal pot, so they won’t care. You might as well play Webern!
